Judith Leiber Couture at the 2018 Emmy Awards
Judith Leiber Couture made multiple appearances on the red carpet of this year’s Emmy Awards. The Emmy Awards is a prestigious annual event hosted at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles. It recognizes excellence in the television industry in the same way that the Academy Award ceremony celebrates film, and the Grammys celebrates music.
Broadcast on prime time American television, you can always bet that the Emmy’s will be a star-studded event, and this year’s 70th annual Emmy Awards did not disappoint. Judith Leiber designs could be spotted in the clutches of notable nominees and A-List plus ones this year, including Thandie Newton, Alison Brie, Michelle Dockery, Alexis Bledel and co-presenter, Constance Wu.

Thandie Newton was among this year’s best-dressed celebrities, donning a bright pink Brandon Maxwell one-sleeve dress that draped dramatically to the floor. The gown was teamed with Harry Winston jewels, achieving effortless sophistication. Newton won her first Emmy at this year’s awards (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series) for her role as Maeve in dystopian drama Westworld. She was spotted carrying a Judith Leiber clutch for the occasion, accentuated by her sparkling accessories.
For fashion aficionados, the 2018 Emmy Awards red carpet was guaranteed to be as stylish as they come, so naturally, Judith Leiber evening bags made more than a few appearances.
GLOW (and formerly Mad Men) actress Alison Brie also stole the spotlight with her flowing gold gown by Miu Miu and Bvlgari jewels, complete with a Judith Leiber crystal clutch.Styled by Erin Walsh, the actress' vibrant outfit featured cut-out details and sparkling Swarovski crystals, offset by those featured on her clutch.
Brie plays Ruth Wilder on 1980s-inspired Netflix show GLOW, so her stylist wanted to play up the retro feel of her gown with Bulgari diamond drop earrings and stacks of sparkling rings. GLOW was nominated for 10 Emmys at this year’s Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series. However, the Netflix special lost out to Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Constance Wu, star of Crazy Rich Asians who presented alongside Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) at this year’s Emmys, also sported a Judith Leiber clutch complete with Jason Wu dress, Harry Winston jewelry, and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes. The actress almost stole the show as she dazzled the audience.

Gilmore Girls star Alexis Bledel wore a stunning dress in millennial pink, which she dressed up with a Judith Leiber clutch. The actress was awarded Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series Emmy in 2017, and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale this year.

Sparkles abound at this year’s awards, as Downtown Abbey star Michelle Dockery was another attendant accessorized by Harry Winston jewelry and a Judith Leiber purse, also donning a dazzling blue Carolina Herrera dress. The gown was decorated with embroidered flowers and matched a pair of Sophia Webster shoes.
The red carpet also paved the way for A-list plus ones who weren’t nominated for an award, such as Justin Timberlake, Chrissy Teigen, and Scarlett Johannsson – the latter of whom made it onto numerous “best dressed” lists with her dazzling white off-the-shoulder dress, complete with plunging V-neckline and thigh-high split.
Other celebs such as comedian Michelle Wolf and This Is Us actress Mandy Moore dressed head-to-toe in sparkly gowns, which would have matched perfectly with a Judith Leiber clutch. Although neither of these ladies walked away with Emmy awards, they can be confident they stunned the crowds with their well-fitted couture.
Marvelous Mrs. Maisel actress Rachel Brosnahan, (Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series) was pictured in the Hollywood Reporter sporting a vibrant red lip that matched her Oscar de la Renta off-the-shoulder gown and Chloe Gosselin shoes. The Marvelous Mrs. Maiselalso won Best Comedy Series, much to Brosnahan’s delight. Her co-star, Alex Borstein, also walked away with an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, as did writer and director Amy Sherman-Palladino – who won two Emmy awards: Best Writer and Best Director for a comedy series.
According to Vogue, other celebrities on this year’s best-dressed list include The Sinneractress Jessica Biel (Best Leading Actress) and Yara Shahidi (Black-Ish), who made a stunning appearance in Gucci and Forevermark Diamond jewelry.
Coverage of the red carpet event by Elle showed other notable appearances, including The Handmaid’s Tale leading lady, Elizabeth Moss wearing custom Vera Wang, Stranger Things star Millie Bobbie Brown in Calvin Klein by Appointment and Thandie Newton’s Westworld co-star, Evan Rachel Wood, who wore Altuzarra and Fred Leighton jewelry to the Emmy Awards this year.
Claire Foy accepted her award for Best Actress in a drama series for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown with grace and style. She wore an Ivory Calvin Klein by Appointment gown featuring an oversized bow at the back. The Crown Director Stephen Daldry also walked away with an Emmy for Directing for a Drama Series.
Emmy Awards were also won by Matthew Rhys, who was granted Best Lead Actor for his role in The Americans; the stunning Regina King, wearing a shoulder-less lime green number, for Best Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie (Seven Seconds); and Darren Criss (The Assassination of Gianni Versace) who won best Limited Series and Best Lead Actor in a Limited Series.Director Ryan Murphy also won an award for directing The Assassination of Gianni Versace and looked stunning in a well-fitted silver suit and bow-tie.
The award for Best Drama Series was won by HBO’s Game of Thrones, with Peter Dinklage accepting Best Supporting Actor for his role as Tyrion Lannister. Dinklage’s co-star Emilia Clarke was also spotted at the event. The Me Before Youand Game of Thrones actress made it onto the Harper’sBazarr Best Dressed List in Dior and Fernando Jorge.
Henry Winkler (Barry) won best supporting actor in a comedy series, while the best Reality-Competition Program was won by fashion favorite, Ru Paul’s Drag Race.
The Judith Leiber collection has always been popular with celebrities, dating right back to the 1950s when Mamie Eisenhower commissioned her first satin silk clutch.
